FAQ's

The vehicle is not as described – you said it starts and drives?
We do not guarantee that any vehicle will start and at the time of collection. The vehicle was tested on receipt and started and drove then.

You are buying a salvage vehicle from a salvage auction, these vehicles will often need repairs to make them road legal– we recommend that you send a recovery vehicle to collect your won item. You should not be planning to drive the vehicle off site. However it is completely at your own liability should you choose to do so.

Please refer to the definition of starts and drives which are available on each advertisement:

Starts

At the time the vehicle arrived at the seller’s premises it was tested to verify whether the engine could be started.

Starts = yes

The Seller was able to start the engine. They do not guarantee the condition of the engine or that it will start again when collected from the Seller’s premises.

Starts = no

The Seller was unable to start the engine.

Starts = Unknown

The seller has been unable to try and start the engine. This may be for a number of reasons such as: There is no key with the vehicle; It may cause further damage to the vehicle if the seller attempts to start the engine; The engine / battery is damaged etc.

Drives

At the time the vehicle arrived at the seller’s premises it was tested to verify whether the engine could be started and to determine whether it could be moved forward for a short distance under its own power. Drives is defined as:

Drives = Yes

The Seller was able to start the engine and select a gear to move the vehicle forward for a short distance under its own power. It does not guarantee the condition of the engine or gearbox or that the vehicle will drive again when collected from the Seller’s premises.

Drives = No

The vehicle could not be moved under its own power.

Drives = Unknown

The seller has been unable to try and drive the vehicle.

What is a salvage vehicle?

Most vehicles on our auction have been subject to an insurance claim. That could mean they have been stolen, been involved in a collision or natural disaster.

When a vehicle is damaged, it is assessed by a qualified inspector who decides whether it is repaired or written off based on the cost of repair. Insurance write-offs are thoroughly inspected and categorised before they reach us. We are always upfront about write-off categories and share as much detail as we can about vehicle damage.

Here is what the categories mean:

Category N vehicles have been written off by the insurer as it was uneconomical to repair, but these have not suffered structural damage. The vehicle’s structural frame or chassis did not suffer any damage. There may be other things to consider, such as whether parts are easily available.

Category S vehicles have suffered structural damage and been written off by the insurer as it was uneconomical to repair. This damage could be to any part of the vehicle’s structural frame, including the chassis.

Category B are not sold by Overton These vehicles cannot be repaired safely but can be ‘broken down’ into useable parts before the shell is crushed. You can find parts from breaking vehicles at https://overton-automotive.co.uk/parts

Category A vehicles are crushed and scrapped with no parts are removed. A typical Cat A vehicle may have been on fire or significantly damaged. There are two more categories you might see in our auction. These vehicles are not insurance write-offs and are HPI clear, which means they have no record of being damaged.

Category X vehicles are unrecorded on HPI and may be dealer disposal, stolen recovered, police seizure and/or have light damage.

Will my vehicle come with a logbook (V5)?

If we have a V5 for a vehicle, this will be noted in the description. If not stated, no V5 will be supplied. Cat S vehicles are never supplied with a V5, so you will need to apply for a replacement logbook from the DVLA.

Questions relating to vehicle damage?

Please check your vehicle for any damage or discrepancies at the time of collection and raise it at that point. Once a vehicle or item has left our site, we assume it is accepted and we are not able to discuss damage or discrepancies. This is within the guidelines of our terms and conditions, which are accepted by members when you register with us.

If you have an issue with a vehicle, please let us know so we can investigate the problem. If you choose to refuse a vehicle, you will need a valid reason such as:

  • Additional, undisclosed damage
  • Missing parts
  • Wrong model, year, or fuel type

I thought I had won the vehicle, why has it been relisted?

Some vehicles on our auction have a minimum reserve price – these are relisted if the final bid is below the reserve. In adverse occasions they vehicle may be relisted as the buyer has revoked on purchasing the vehicle and paid a cancellation fee to have the vehicle relisted.
